Behavioral Health Internship

At the Desert Mountain Children’s Center (DMCC), we are proud to support mental health professionals by offering high-quality continuing education and professional learning opportunities. Our training institute offers practical, engaging, and relevant training to help professionals grow their skills and stay current in their field.

DMCC is an approved provider through the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT). Our training helps professionals meet their continuing education (CE) requirements while expanding their knowledge and improving the care they provide to clients. Our programs serve a variety of licensed professionals, including marriage and family therapists, clinical social workers, professional clinical counselors, and educational psychologists

The Training Institute offers a wide range of topics that reflect the changing needs of the mental health field. Sessions may focus on foundational clinical skills, evidence-based therapy techniques, trauma-informed care, behavioral health strategies, and emerging approaches to treatment. These trainings are designed to strengthen clinical practice and provide tools that professionals can apply directly in their work.

To support busy professionals, we offer flexible learning options. Training may be available online or in person, allowing participants to choose the format that best fits their schedule and learning style.

Each training is led by experienced presenters who bring their clinical knowledge and practical strategies to every session. Participants leave with new insights, useful resources, and tools they can use right away.

When you participate in a DMCC Training Institute training, you are not only earning continuing education credits—you are joining a professional community dedicated to improving mental health care and supporting the well-being of children, families, and communities

What Interns Do

Interns may provide individual or group support to clients. They may also help during crisis situations and support people receiving behavioral health services.

Supervision and Training

Interns receive regular support from licensed clinicians. This includes at least one hour of individual supervision each week. Interns also take part in group supervision and training sessions to build their skills and knowledge.

Program Schedule

Interns usually work 2 to 4 days each week. Most interns complete 16 to 20 hours per week during their placement. Most internships require 16 to 20 hours per week and last 6 to 10 months, depending on the program.

Work Settings

Interns may work in schools, clinics, or client homes. This helps them gain experience with different people and settings.

Skill Development

Training is designed to grow with the intern. As interns gain skills and confidence, they may take on more responsibility over time.

Responsibilities

Interns may help with treatment planning and work with a team of professionals. They may also attend trainings on different behavioral health topics to continue learning.
