Educationally Related Residential Placement & Monitoring

Residential facilities provide a structured, therapeutic environment for students who need intensive support. These programs combine therapy and education in a consistent setting that helps students succeed academically, socially, and emotionally.

As part of the program, families are included through regular sessions that support both the student and their loved ones throughout the placement process.

Residential placement is typically considered when a student requires this level of care to fully benefit from special education services. If it is determined that a student will be placed in an educationally related placement, the services they receive are customized to their individual needs, as detailed in their Individualized Education Program (IEP). These services are designed to help them make progress in their education and meet their IEP goals.

A student may qualify for residential placement if the IEP team decides it is necessary. This applies to students from school districts or charter schools that are members of or contracted with the Desert Mountain SELPA or Desert Mountain Charter SELPA. The IEP team must decide if a referral is appropriate to send to DMCC for a residential assessment, which is done by trained clinical staff.
